Six Tips For Refreshing Your Makeup Looks For Spring

Are you stuck in a makeup rut? A few little changes can completely transform your makeup looks and give you a fresh, youthful appearance. As we move into the new season, we thought it’d be the perfect time to share some of our top tips for refreshing your makeup looks for spring.

Get our of your makeup rut by following our six tips below.

1. Apply a primer

If you find that your makeup seems to melt off your face in spring and summer, try using a primer before you apply your base. Primers are designed to help makeup adhere to your skin longer and many also help to blur any imperfections on your face.

2. Ditch your foundation

In the warmer months, you don’t want to wear foundation that is too heavy and mattifying. Instead you want to opt for something light, with a dewy finish. Put your foundation aside and pick up a tinted moisturiser or BB cream instead. They’re much lighter in texture and will allow you to achieve a beautiful, natural base for spring.

3. Create a rosy glow

Whilst women tend to be big on contouring in the autumn and winter, in spring it’s all about achieving a beautiful rosy glow. Opt for a pink-tone or peachy coloured blush and apply it to the apples of your cheeks. Cream and gel based blushes have great staying power and are perfect for achieving a dewy, springtime finish.

Use a highlighter to accentuate your cheekbones and create beautiful glowing skin. It doesn’t have to be a high-end brand; you can pick up a highlighter for under £10.00 from the drugstore.

4. Don’t forget to highlight

Highlighting the cheekbones is a great way to enhance your face shape and give your skin a luminous finish. If you are using a powder highlighter, sweep it over your cheekbones and gently up to your temples. You can also add a tiny amount in the corner of your eye and across the brow bones.

Highlighters also come in liquid and cream form. If you choose a liquid highlighter, try mixing a small amount into your tinted moisturiser to achieve a beautiful all-over glow. With cream highlighters you just need to apply a little to your fingers or a stippling brush and dab it over your cheekbones.

5. Play around with colour

If you’re bored of your winter neutrals, then why not brave a little colour for spring? We’re not suggesting you have to go all out with pastel eye shadows and florescent lipsticks but subtly adding colour to your makeup can give you a completely new look.

Try picking up a coloured eyeliner in blue, purple or green and using it blended out under your waterline or in the outer corner of your eye. Alternatively you could opt for a pink-toned coral lipstick, which will instantly brighten up your entire look. Experiment with colour and see what works for you. In time, you’ll feel much more confidentin incorporating colour into your spring makeup looks.

6. Don’t over-do your brows

If you’ve been rocking the heavy brow look over the winter and fancy a change, why not try going for something a little more natural? Running a tinted gel through your eyebrows is a great way to frame your face without making your eyebrows the main feature.
